Sterling Trio with Elizabeth Bass, harp

Trio

The trio has been working with guest harpist Elizabeth Bass recently, and it’s been great to explore some unusual works for this brilliant combination of instruments. We have two performances under our belt already, and future dates are:

  • 24th May, 12 noon. Wilmslow United Reform Church.
  • 8th June, 1pm. Hyde Town Hall (Tameside Concerts Society).
  • 11th June, 8pm. St Andrews’s Church, Sedburgh (Sedburgh Music Festival).

Programmes include a newly-adapted work by Manchester composer Andy Scott as well as Arnold Bax’s evocative Elegiac Trio.

Sterling Trio Masterclass in Mansfield

Teaching & EducationTrio

On 29th January I returned to Mansfield with the Sterling Trio to do a masterclass with young woodwind players from the Nottinghamshire Music Hub. This year we focussed on exam / performance preparation, including mental preparation, tackling performance anxiety, supporting exam tests (aural, scales and sight-reading) and accompaniment technique.

We worked with 13 flute, clarinet, saxophone and oboe players whose feedback included that they felt “more confident” and enjoyed “achieving the best out of my performance”.

A parent commented thank you very much indeed for such a marvelous opportunity. My son really enjoyed himself and was so proud of his contribution and pleased with all the tips and advice he gained on the day. Thank you for organising it and thank you to the Sterling Trio who were fantastic.”

Sterling Trio in Devon

Trio

It was a long trip but well worth it to play in the beautiful church in Crediton to open their concert season. We were very looked after and was a beautiful acoustic to play in…(shame the hire car was the smallest imaginable…quite a feat of packing!). Hope to be back in the future.

Music for the Imagination – music & visuals

Trio

Here are some videos from a project we did back in 2010 with video artist Richard Dawson. He created some fabulously atmospheric projections to accompany Lenny Sayers’ “Music for the Imagination”. It was premiered in the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool.

Guillaume Connesson: ‘Techno-Parade’

Trio

A video of the Sterling Trio performing a great piece by Connesson called ‘Techno-Parade’ is now available on YouTube. It fuses classical and popular music styles, and features Lauren doing all manner of unusual things with the piano…

The performance took place at the Bridewater Hall, Manchester in June 2013.

Check it out and let us know what you think!
